On December 5, 2018, within the framework of Project No. 8.3.5.0/16/I/001 “Career Support in General and Vocational Education Institutions”, a career development support event titled “How to Become a Good Specialist” was organized.
As part of this event, students from the “Energy” E-1 group of PIKC “Riga Technical College” went on an educational excursion to the 20 kV SP4083 “Lutriņi” and Substation No. 52 “Skrunda.”
The purpose of the excursion was to familiarize future electrical technicians with the operations of SIA “Ditra Networks,” its working conditions, the latest technologies used in the company, to observe professionals at work, and to learn about internship and job opportunities within the company.
Accompanied by Juris Grigorjevs, Head of Department at SIA “Ditra Networks,” the students toured newly constructed 110/20 kV equipment and gained a broader insight into the energy sector. They received information on the latest materials and production technologies. Students had the opportunity to see a 20 kV indoor service switchgear point, a 110 kV outdoor switchgear installation, a 20 kV indoor switchgear installation, and 20 kV earth-fault compensation equipment. Substation No. 52 “Skrunda” is being built from scratch as an “H”-type substation, as the high-voltage lines are arranged in the shape of the letter H.
During the visit, Juris Grigorjevs spoke to the students about the qualities that help build a focused, professional, and responsible team, as well as the career opportunities available at SIA “Ditra Networks.” He emphasized that to become a good electrician, you must first start with a shovel, as it is the very first work tool.
After the excursion, student A. Ņikitins concluded that if you enjoy your work, you will be happy. N. Nikandrovs noted how much knowledge is required to be a good electrician, while A. Prauda recommended that young people study to become electricians, as it is an interesting and exciting profession.
